• The seminar is intended for designers, architects, investors, manufacturers and wide professional public and is the accredited education program for members of ČKAIT.
• The top specialists from Slovakia, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg , Finland, Great Britain and the Czech Republic introduced their lectures in the 16th annual seminar. Simultaneous interpreting for Czech participants was realized.
This year 38 lectures were presented by top specialists in production and designing sphere and universities from Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Finland, Canada and the Czech Republic. The presence of the Canadian ambassador for the Czech Republic and Slovakia has become a tradition. Forty-nine businesses dealing with services and products connected with the presented subjects introduced themselves during the seminar together with professional publishers introducing literature from the building area and wood-processing industry.
As this year is the 15th annual volume it would be interesting to bring out some information about the history of the seminar. The first one-day pilot seminar took place in 1997. It was connected with the time when the new study programme Wood Constructions was introduced in the Higher Professional School in Volyně. The aim of the seminar was to refer to the new comprehensive study programme focused on wood structures, which had not been taught at any school in the Czech Republic that time. The seminar was successful and the number of lectures and participants increased up to today's 750. There was the demand to enlarge the seminar in two days and accompany the lectures with proceedings. As the seminars brought valuable knowledge for designing work, investors and realization firms, another, primarily unproclaimed, objective appeared - to create from the Professional School the recognized centre for further education in the branch, a meeting point and a document collection of wood constructions whose ground are the 360 lectures in the collective volumes. The seminars helped to increase the quality of education. They help the school to organize half-year vocational trainings, opened the gates for foreign trainee-ships and enlarge topics of graduation works. The valuable experience for the students is meeting the real practice and development.
The seminar 'Wood structures' is not only a symbolic modifier connected with the Higher Professional School and Secondary Technical School in Volyně but also a symbol of the largest meeting of the top specialists/professionals in the former Czechoslovakia. For our school this project is not only its promotion and immediate connection with the real practice but it also has other side effects. The verification of these words is going to be building of 'The Centre for Consumer Industry' - aimed at high-tech processing of carpentry constructions which should grow up in the support of the European Union and South Bohemian region in the neighbourhood of the school in two years.
Every year we find more and more graduates of our school to move from the last lines to the very demanded and precious positions in various companies (for their professional knowledge and skills, language proficiency, ability to work with computer technology and above of for their ethical qualities). We could confirm these words in the last wood constructions fair in Prague where we could find at least one graduate of the 'Volyně school' at many of the stands there. Positive statistics at the employment offices are always good results for each school but the biggest satisfaction for every teacher is when their graduates work in their study branch.
